2021 was a very big year!

Our cohort was the first Year 12's to have ATAR assessment in each of our 4 terms, as well as the final end of year exams. It was Study, Study, Study!

In addition to schoolwork I learnt to Scuba dive, did a lot more rock climbing, and held TEDxHillbrook, which was an amazing evening. There were a number of other extracurricular activities, and even a few parties.

It was also the year to submit my USA University Applications, a long and arduous process of applications, references, essays and personal reflection.

It has been bitter sweet finishing high school. Hillbrook and all my teachers were awesome, and I had an incredible 6 years. I miss everyone but am also excited about the future.

I was getting rather burnt out by our last day in November, and a week at Schoolies was a very much needed break.

However, the year wasn't over yet. I was extremely happy, relived and exhausted - all at the same time - when I learnt that I had been accepted into the Ivy League to study physics at Columbia University in the city of New York.

A couple of days later I was surprised to learn I'd earned an ATAR score of 99.5, and earned a QCE Commendation for earning an A Grade in all my subjects.

A key element of university applications in the  United States is "the personal essay".
With a strict limit of 650 words it challenges your writing skills, ability to share a meaningful event in your life, as well as revealing something about yourself. Below is the essay that I spent months on, which ultimately helped my acceptance into the Ivy League. (649 words)
